| Purpose: | The Award for Excellence in Service Learning will annually recognize a faculty or teaching academic staff member who has made distinguished contributions to student engagement through service learning. Nominees for this award must demonstrate that their contributions in the area of service learning, conform to the accepted definition of service learning experiences and are worthy of recognition as exceptional achievements in this field of endeavor. Please refer to the UWP Community University Partnership Program website at http://www.uwplatt.edu/cup/ for further information about service learning. The University of Wisconsin-Platteville acknowledges the importance of service learning and seeks to encourage participation in the development of innovative service learning opportunities for UWP students. These service learning experiences should combine community service with student learning in such a way that both the student and the community mutually benefit from the experience. |

| Eligibility: | Eligible individuals are university faculty or teaching academic staff who hold appointments of at least 0.5 FTE and who have already disseminated their service learning activities via the UWP on-line reporting system. | |
| Selection Criteria: | Nominees will be evaluated on the basis of an application documenting their outstanding achievements
and contributions in their role of involving the university and students in service learning. Their application
should provide specific evidence of outstanding achievement in service learning worthy of recognition. Specific criteria for this award include the following: |

1. |
Recognition of the "academic fit" of service learning between the scholar's role and the mission of the department and/or university. |
|
2. |
Recognition of the dissemination of the scholarly work to appropriate academic and public audiences in a manner consistent with the mission of this institution. |
|
3. |
Recognition of intellectually compelling service learning outcomes. Demonstration of a link between the service learning outcomes and program learning outcomes is satisfactory, though other outcomes may be recognized. |

4. |
Recognition of substantial contributions to service learning involving any community. |

| Selection Committee |
The selection committee will consist of three members of the Improvement of Learning Committee. |

| Recognition: | The award consists of a $1,000.00 honorarium and a UWP recognition plaque. The recipient will be recognized a the Chancellor's Fall Convocation Ceremony. | |
| Who May Nominate: | Nominations may come from a college, department or school. Suggestions for nominees may come from any administrator, faculty, or staff. Self-nominations are also welcome. Nominations must be made to the Improvement of Learning Committee: The Award for Excellence in Service Learning. | |
