Listed below are the fringe benefit rates to be used by the University of Wisconsin-Platteville in charging extramural funds for the employer's contribution to fringe benefits during the 2011-2012 fiscal year.

These rates include the employer's contribution to retirement, health insurance, FICA and Medicare FICA, unemployment compensation, workers compensation, income continuation insurance and life insurance. They should be used in all proposals submitted to extramural sponsors on or after the date this memo is received. Multiple year proposals should include an estimated increase for future fringe benefit costs.
The Federal Department of Health and Human Services has approved UW-Platteville's facilities and administrative cost rate for July 1, 2012 through June 30, 2016 utilizing the modified total direct cost methodology.
"Indirect costs" include the Facilities & Administrative costs such as building maintenance and utilities. UW-Platteville's indirect costs are modified total direct. Modified Total Direct Costs (MTDC) are based on all salary, fringe, supplies, services, travel, and subgrants/subcontracts up to $25,000. Capital expenditures, equipment >$5,000, charges for patient care and tuition remission, rental costs, scholarships, and fellowships as well as the portion of each subgrant/subcontract amounts over the initial $25,000 are excluded from the indirect charge. When indirect costs are charged they will be calculated using UW-Platteville's federally negotiated and approved indirect costs rates.
