2013 Faculty Award for Teaching Excellence

Purpose:

The Faculty Award for Teaching Excellence annually recognizes a tenure-track or tenured faculty member who has made distinguished contributions to the mission of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville as an outstanding teacher.

Sponsor:

The Office of the Chancellor.

Eligibility:

Eligible individuals are university faculty who hold tenure-track or tenured teaching appointments of at least 0.5 FTE. Nominees must have completed at least eight years of teaching at UWP at the time of nomination, three of which must be on tenure track. Nominees may not have received a UW System Underkofler or Regents Teaching Excellence award in the last three years.

Selection Criteria:

Nominees will be evaluated on the basis of an application documenting their outstanding achievements and contributions in their role as a teacher. Their application should provide specific evidence of outstanding achievement in teaching worthy of recognition.

Specific criteria for this award include the following:

  1. Excellent student evaluations of instruction in a variety of courses from the last three years.
  2. Recognition of excellence in instruction by one's peers within the university.
  3. Recognition of excellence in teaching materials, curriculum, teaching techniques and strategies by one's peers.
  4. Development of teaching methods, materials and activities that are shared with peers to assist in their teaching activities for teaching improvement.
  5. Selection Committee:

    The selection committee will consist of one member from each college who are members of the Improvement of Learning Committee. At least two selection committee members will make a classroom visitation to each of the top three finalists.

    Recognition:

    The award consists of a $1,000.00 honorarium and a UWP recognition plaque. The recipient will be recognized at the Chancellor's Fall Convocation.

    Who May Nominate:

    Suggestions for nominees may come from administrators or faculty. Self-nominations are also welcome. Nominations must be made to the UW-Platteville Improvement of Learning Committee: Faculty Award for Teaching Excellence.

    Organization Of the Application:

    The application must be composed of:

    1. UWP Internal Grants Cover Page
    2. Application form
    3. Nomination statement of not more than two pages, highlighting the contributions and achievements of the nominee.
    4. Three to five letters of support; at least one should be from a current or former student.
    5. A maximum of 5 pages documenting teaching excellence, which may include student evaluations and/or peer evaluations.
    6. A maximum of 10 pages documenting teaching and online materials, presentation, and the sharing of knowledge to peers within or outside the university.

    Submission Deadline:

    March 22, 2013 at 4:00 p.m

    Submit original with signatures to the Office of Sponsored Programs, 5th floor Pioneer Tower and email materials numbered 3-6 (as a pdf document) to osp@uwplatt.edu.
