Reclamation is the improvement or restoration of the quality of land and water by practical application of science, technology, and management. Essential to this program is training in the fields of civil engineering, soil science, geology, ecology, environmental law, and chemistry.
Its basis lies in both ethics and sound land use management. Reclamation addresses land management issues such as mining, construction, agriculture, forestry, and wildlife. The organization of reclamation specialists in the United States is a comparitively recent event, and the program here at UW-Platteville was designed with imput from the industry, government, and academic researchers. The UW-Platteville reclamation major is the only such four-year college program in the United States.
The Reclamation Club is designed to help students in our major stay informed of the current issues in reclamation. It's also a lot of fun and a great way for reclamation students to get to know each other.
