Pi Alpha Xi is the official honor society for horticulture. The organization seeks to unify students, educators and professional horticulturists by promoting high scholarship, fellowship, professional leadership, and the enrichment of human life through plants. The first (Alpha) chapter of Pi Alpha Xi was originally established at Cornell University in 1923. The national society now boasts 35 chapters and over 10,000 members. The Alpha Pi chapter at UW-Platteville was chartered May 4, 2006. Only the top students in junior and senior classes with a major or minor in ornamental horticulture are eligible to join. Graduate students and faculty with an emphasis in horticulture are also eligible. Students must have completed at least 60 credits, possess an academic average of at least a "B", and give promise of continued activity and interest in the field horticulture. Our advisor is Dr. Mike Compton (608-342-1323).
