The Agronomy/Soil and Water Conservation Club is open to anyone with an interest in soils, crops, and conservation of soil and water resources. The club's mission is to promote professional development of students seeking careers in soils, agronomy, and natural resource conservation. The club also sponsors three contests for high school students: the World Forage Cup contest, held annually at the World Dairy Expo in Madison, the Agronomy Career Development Event in March, and the UW-Platteville Land judging competition in April or May.
The club is a student chapter of the Students of Agronomy, Soils, and Environmental Sciences (SASES) and the Soil and Water Conservation Society (SWCS). Club fund raising activities are used to support travel for field trips, professional meetings, and judging teams, as well as social outings.
The Agronomy/Soil and Water Conservation club is advised by Dr. Chris Baxter, baxterch@uwplatt.edu, (608) 342-1388 and Dr. Kris Mahoney mahoneykr@uwplatt.edu, (608) 342-1363. The Agronomy Club meets approximately twice a month. For more information, see www.uwplatt.edu/org/agronomy/.
