It’s time to sign up for your residence hall room for the 2014-2015 academic year! The Department of Residence Life is excited about transitioning to an on-line room sign-up process for all current UW-Platteville students returning to the residence halls for the 2014-2015 academic year.  Your priority sign-up is based on your earned credits.  An email will be sent to returning students defining the application window they are eligible to sign up within, and the link to the on-line application.  Please pay special attention to the following application windows:

Feb. 10 - 14, 2014, beginning at 8:00 a.m: Residents who wish to remain in their current residence hall room. Please read through the instructions available by clicking here.
Feb. 17 - 21, 2014, beginning at 8:00 a.m: Returning students with over 60 university credits can sign up for a residence hall space.  Please read through the instructions available by clicking here.
Feb. 24 - 28, 2014, beginning at 8:00 a.m: Returning students with less than 60 university credits can sign up for a residence hall space.  Please read through the instructions available by clicking here.

The email sent to you will outline specific dates that you will want to pay attention to.   Your application will NOT be complete and your space will NOT be reserved beyond your application window until your Residence Life pre-payment is submitted.  You may pay the $150 pre-payment via credit card (Mastercard, Visa, American Express, Discover Card) online or by submitting a check or money order to the Department of Residence Life in Royce Hall.  An additional $3.75 administrative fee will be charged to those residents paying via credit card.  There will be a prompt during the sign up process when its time to enter the credit card information or directions on how to submit the $150 check or money order.  No cash will be accepted.

University of Wisconsin Board of Regents policy states that all freshman and sophomore students must live in university residence halls unless they meet established criteria for exemption.  Exceptions to this requirement are authorized, with appropriate completion of paperwork, for the following reasons:

1. Students who commute daily from the home of their parent/legal guardian within a 50 mile radius
2. Students who are 21 years of age or older
3. Students who have been out of high school for at least two years
4. Students who have 60 or more post high school credits
5. Students who are married

Students must submit evidence of the above criteria before room sign up, in addition to completing the Request for Exemption form provided by the Department of Residence Life. Please come to our office in Royce Hall to obtain that form.

Please note that students will be held to this requirement through this year and beyond and should not proceed to make plans with others to live off campus or sign leases, as we don’t want students having to pay double rental rates for a residence hall room and an off campus living space.  You will be held to the residency requirement and residence hall contract, and will be billed for a residence hall space accordingly - regardless of any plans you make without the approval of the Department of Residence Life at UW-Platteville.  An exception will not be made because you have already signed a lease to live off campus.

We will be checking your status during room reservation time to see if you are in compliance with the UW Board of Regents Residency Requirement.  A hold will be placed on your student account if you are not in compliance, and you will not be able to register for fall, 2014 classes until you reserve a residence hall space.

The following reasons (not all inclusive) are common issues presented in previous years as extreme circumstances and will not be considered for exemption from the residency requirement:

• Financial concerns
• Roommate issues
• Dissatisfaction with hall environment
• Health concerns that can be accommodated in other residence hall options

SPECIAL NOTE:  All residence hall contracts are full academic year contracts.  Students participating in a university sponsored program (study abroad, co-op, internship, student teaching) or military service must request a single semester contract through the Department of Residence Life. Once a contract is signed, it is legally binding. No cancellations of contracts will be permitted unless you are no longer attending UW-Platteville.  Once you enter a contract with Residence Life, you will be held to it just as you would be held to a lease you enter to live off campus.

Please be watching your email, mail box, Residence Life web page, Residence Life Facebook page, and posters in your hall for more information regarding room sign-up and securing a space for next year.  It is your responsibility to read all information presented to you so you know how to proceed.

Please do not respond to this email as it is intended for information purposes only.  Questions can be directed to your Resident Assistant or Resident Director.  Thank you.
