SWTC Associate Degrees   UW-P Baccalaureate Degree
Child Care and Development   Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education (With a minor in Early Childhood)

Rationale: The Southwest Wisconsin Technical College prepares students entering the early childhood profession by offering an Associate's Degree in Child Care and Development. The School of Education at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville offers a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Early Childhood Education. The Associate Degree program places a high degree of emphasis upon application of child development knowledge as entry level skills while the bachelor's degree at UW-Platteville builds upon the introductory application skills by adding theoretical coursework, analytical and critical thinking competencies, and internships. As public schools and private entities move rapidly into the early childhood arena, students need opportunities to upgrade their competencies to meet rigorous licensure standards. The local, state, and national thrust strongly suggests that articulation agreements be developed between institutions to ensure a broadly and extensively educated early childhood workforce.
