Rationale:

The Madison Area Technical College prepares students entering the early childhood profession by offering an Associate's Degree in Child Care and Development. The School of Education at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville offers a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Early Childhood Education. The Associate Degree programs place a high degree of emphasis on application of child development knowledge as entry level skills while the bachelor's degree at UW-Platteville builds upon introductory application skills by adding theoretical coursework, analytical and critical thinking competencies, and internships. As public schools and private entities move rapidly into the early childhood arena students need opportunities to upgrade their competencies to meet rigorous licensure standards. The local, state, and national thrust strongly suggests that articulation agreements be developed between institutions to ensure a broadly and extensively educated early childhood workforce.

Additional Information

Effective for students admitted to the Pre K-6 Teacher Certification Program after August 31, 1993.
In order for these courses to transfer, the student must have completed the courses no earlier than the 1988-89 academic year with a grade of "C" or better.
This list replaces any previously approved list.
If the student changes from the Pre K-6 major or transfers to another UW campus, these professional/ vocational courses may not necessarily transfer.
Effective Date: This agreement was created August 2000. This agreement covers courses which have been previously approved by the UW-System.

Definition

Program-to-program transfer courses/credits are accepted only for the program/degree specified in this agreement. A change of major/degree/program invalidates these courses/credits for transfer unless they are approved within some other program-to-program Articulation Agreement for a different major/degree/program at UW-Platteville.
