Learn about the exciting career opportunities that are available for women upon successful completion of high school and/or college. The hands-on, interactive career sessions will give you some ideas for exploring careers that involve problem solving and experimentation, putting things together and taking them apart, and using what you learn in your studies of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Plus, it is lots of fun!

Ready to explore?

Here are some great career possibilities to fulfill your dreams. Choose three areas of interest

Material Science: Ever wonder what makes one material soft and the other hard? A material scientist uses science and engineering principles to manipulate how a material will behave using a variety of methods. Come investigate why some plastics are hard and break easily while others bend and stretch. See the effects of different heat treatments on metals and look at the structure on a microscope to explain the properties.

Robotics: What makes that LED blink or that robot move? Robotics will introduce you to engineering and motivate you to be involved in creating future technology. Learn about electronics and programming, and exercise problem solving and creativity skills as you tell a robot how to move in a program. No prior skills required.

Agriculture Engineering: Agricultural engineers apply knowledge of engineering technology and science to agriculture and the efficient use of biological resources. In addition to creating advances in farming and agriculture, agricultural engineers apply engineering design and analysis to protecting natural resources, developing power systems to support agriculture, and providing environmental controls.

Biorenewable Energy: Sometimes called "green energy," biorenewable energy includes plant-based fuels such as ethanol and biodiesel, biogas produced from anaerobic digestion of agricultural wastes and energy derived from burning or thermal conversion of plant material. Biorenewable energy experts help to develop new types of energy sources, which help the environment by reducing the amount of greenhouse gasses that come from burning fossil fuel-based energy sources.

Veterinary Medicine: Do you love learning and being challenged? Do you love working with animals and their people? Then veterinary medicine might be for you. Come learn about how you can work with owners to help prevent disease in their canine family member or visit Africa to work with endangered species. Vets need to know about every animal, including humans, and act as the first line of defense for the nation against foreign diseases. Exciting careers await you in veterinary medicine. Please note that domestic animals will be part of this session.

Biotechnology: Biotechnologists create products intended to improve the quality of human life, to heal diseases, to solve crimes and to find missing individuals. Biotechnologists use knowledge and skills from many science areas to save the lives of humans and animals.

Chemistry: Ever wonder why lemons taste sour or how glow sticks work? Chemistry has the answers. Chemists study the reactions of compounds and changes in energy and explore topics like colors, light, plastics and acids.

Physical Geography: Ever wonder how the landscapes around us formed? Rivers have the answer. We will explore how rivers carved out the landscape we see everyday. We'll also create massive floods!
