Handicap Parking Permit

TEMPORARY HANDICAP PERMIT INFORMATION

  • The University Police Department provides a temporary 10-day handicap permit. If a permit is needed for a longer period of time the individual will have to apply with the Department of Transportation within the state they permanently reside. The University Police will not extend a 10-day handicap permit.
  • The University Police requires a doctor’s written authorization before issuing a temporary handicap permit. The authorization needs to be on hostpial/clinc letterhead and include the individual's name, state that they need a handicap permit, and for how long (not to exceed 10 days). This needs to be faxed to the University Police Department at 608.342.1641.
  • The 10-day permit may be applied for and picked up at the University Police Office during the regular business hours, upon receipt of the authorization.
  • The temporary handicap permit is $20 (cash/check) for 10 days.  Persons with a current UW-Platteville permit will not be charged this fee.
  • The University Police reserves the right to place restrictions on any temporary handicap permit issued.
  • The UW-Platteville 10-day temporary handicap permit is only valid in UW-Platteville parking lots.
  • If you display the UW-Platteville temporary handicap permit
    • You may park on campus in any designated handicap stall.
    • If no handicap stalls are available you may park in any non-reserved, legal parking stall,
    • You are exempt from any meter charges.

STATE HANDICAP PERMIT INFORMATION

  • If you display any state handicap permit
    • You may park in any designated handicap stall provided you purchase and also display a visitor permit (scroll down for info) along with the state handicap permit.
    • If no handicap stalls are available you may park in any non-reserved, legal parking stall, provided you purchase and also display a visitor permit (scroll down for info) with your state handicap permit.
    • You are exempt from any meter charges.

Overnight Permit

  • Overnight permits are ONLY for Staff/Students participating in a university sponsored trip or conference.
  • This permit is only available at the University Police Office, during office hours, at no charge
  • Staff ~ You may apply if you are leaving on a university sponsored conference/trip.
  • Students ~ The department secretary, faculty member, or group advisor may apply for a permit(s) for you and/or your group.
    • They may also email the police@uwplatt.edu informing our department of your name(s) and the university sponsored trip dates so that you can apply for the permit.
    • You would not be able to apply until the trip information and names are received from one of the individuals authorized above.
  • Athletic Group ~ If you are leaving with an athletic team you will need to see your coach for a permit.
  • This permit allows the bearer to park in lot 26 ONLY.
  • This permit is valid in lot 26 only during the "from and thru date" on the permit.
  • This permit is void and the vehicle subject to parking citations if the plate number does not match the vehicle displayed in.
  • This permit is void and the vehicle subject to parking citations if any information is left blank on the permit.
  • This permit must be properly displayed properly or a parking citation will be issued.

Individual NON-STUDENT One Day Permit

  • There is a fee for NON-STUDENT One Day permits.  See the Parking Permits page for current fee.
  • Permits may be purchased at:
    • University Police Department (mail or in person) and the Markee Pioneer Student Center - Information Center (unlimited quantities with check or cash).
    • Ullsvik Hall Box Office (limited quantities with check, cash or card).
    • Online at https://permitsales.net/uwplatt
  • NON-STUDENT one day permits, if not purchased online, are valid only for the date scratched off.  If more than one day is scratched off the permit, the permit is void and citations issued.
    • If purchased online valid dates will show on permit you print.
  • NON-STUDENT parking permits are valid:
    • in Visitor stalls
    • Staff and Commuter Lots
    • on College Drive, University Plaza, and Greenwood Avenue 
  • One day parking permits are not valid:
    • for 2–6 a.m.parking in ANY location
    • Any designated Reserved or No Parking area
    • in Metered Stalls
      • Cars parked at a meter MUST pay the meter- See PARKING METER section in University Parking Regulations for more information
  • Please fill out the entire form and print it.
  • The permit must be hung from the rear view mirror, or if unable to display from the rear view mirror, the permit must be displayed, face up, on the driver's side corner of the dashboard, with the permit facing outward. Any vehicle displaying a visitor permit, that is not readable, or not properly displayed will result in a parking citation

Service Vendor

  • A vendor or a company servicing the university may receive a service parking permit at no charge. This parking permit will have a yearly expiration. You may reapply during the month of your expiration to renew your permit.
  • A service vendor who drives a clearly marked business vehicle will not be required to display a parking permit.
  • If the original parking permit is lost, the vendor or company will be required to purchase a replacement permit at a nominal fee.
  • A company contracted by the Physical Plant should consult with the Physical Plant Administration regarding parking arrangements. The company may receive a contractor parking permit, which is issued by the Physical Plant.

Athletic Department Permits

All coaches will need to see Kara McCarville for the participants overnight parking permits for the current trip.

Pioneer Patron Parking Permits (Emeritus Status)

  • Retired faculty and staff that have been awarded Emeritus status may apply for a Staff Parking permit at no cost.
  • The permit must be displayed while parking in a university lot or a citation will be issued for non-display.
  • A displayed staff parking permit will allow you to park in any staff parking lot.
  • If the original permit is lost, stolen, or damaged, the permit holder will be required to purchase a replacement at a nominal fee.
  • The permit must be renewed before Aug. 31 of every year.

Pioneer Activity Center Members

Anyone who purchased a membership to the Pioneer Activity Center may purchase a Commuter Parking Permit. The same restrictions apply to Pioneer Activity Center Members that apply to commuter parking lots.  The permit amount will be the same as a commuter parking permit fee.  Permits may be ordered online at https://permitsales.net/uwplatt .  Persons requiring assistance with a permit purchase may come to the University Police Department, during business hours, to request an available office staff member to order the parking permit online for you.
