Clery report

This report provides information regarding compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act.

The "Clery Bill" (H.R.3344, S.1925, S.1930) was introduced in Congress on September 6, 1989, and was signed into law on November 8, 1990 by President George Bush as Title 2 of the "Student Right-To-Know and Campus Security Act." The bill was named for Jeanne Clery who was raped and murdered in her dorm room at Lehigh University in 1986.

It took effect September 1, 1991 and the U.S. Department of Education (DOE) was charged with enforcing the law. The law required all institutions of higher education to release campus crime statistics and security policies to their current and prospective students or employees. Congress enacted this law, which was originally known as the "Crime Awareness and Campus Security Act of 1990."

Additional crime information may be included in the federal Department of Education Office of Postsecondary Education (OPE) Campus Security Report, compiled by the UW-Platteville Student Affairs office. The data for this report are drawn from the OPE Campus Security Statistics Website database to which crime statistics are submitted annually, via a web-based data collection, by all postsecondary institutions that receive Title IV funding (i.e., those that participate in federal student aid programs) as required by the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act. This security report may contain additional incidents not reported to the UW-Platteville Police Department, including incidents that may have occurred off campus.

On October 1st of each year, the Annual Security & Fire Safety Report is posted in accordance with the Jeanne Clery act.
