Department of Criminal Justice
Assistant Professor (LAE CJ08 10-01)

Tenure Track position in the Department of Criminal Justice - 9 month contract.

Qualifications:
A Ph.D. in criminal justice, criminology, sociology or closely related field is required (a JD law degree is not appropriate for this position); specialization in theory and research methods is desired. ABDs will be considered but the Ph.D. must be completed prior to consideration for tenure. Applicants must also have a demonstrated commitment to or substantive experience with racially diverse populations, especially those presented in the United States. Applicants must have a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate education. A willingness to collaborate with both students and faculty, and become involve in university service, is essential. It is expected that the candidate remain professionally active in the criminal justice community. We are primarily interested in hiring outstanding teachers who will be an asset to the Department and the University. Field experience and or prior university teaching experience is preferred..

The applicant must have demonstrable skills in oral and written communications. In addition, he or she must have observable enthusiasm for professional engagement with students in and out of the classroom and ability to work in teams in a collegial environment. The applicant may be required to teach courses through alternative delivery methods.

Responsibilities:
The primary responsibility will be to teach criminal justice undergraduate and/or graduate courses especially in the area of theory and research. The typical teaching load is twelve credits per semester. Applicants will also be expected to participate in scholarly activities, provide academic advising to students, and participate in department, college, university and public service.

Criminal Justice at UW-Platteville:
The Criminal Justice Department, in the College of Liberal Arts and Education, has 8 full-time tenure track positions, and regular employs an additional 5 academic staff and 1 administrative assistant. The department offers an on campus undergraduate degree and online undergraduate and graduate degrees in Criminal Justice. The undergraduate program offers BA or BS and the graduate program offers a MS in criminal justice. Criminal justice class sizes are approximately 30 students.
