V.   Goals and Objectives

The goal for overcoming underutilization is to get results from as many hiring opportunities as possible in areas where women and minority group members are under represented. The final goal is to have a work force that reflects the availability of qualified women and minorities. To accomplish this, renewed efforts to enlarge the pool of candidates by reaffirming hiring goals and methods at each potential hire must be made.

Faculty (Job Group 50 and 51) Information generated indicates that at the faculty level, greater efforts need to be exerted to recruit women in Liberal Arts & Education (LA&E).

Instructional Academic Staff (Job Group 40) –Information generated indicates that at this level, greater efforts need to be exerted to recruit minorities. We currently have eight (8) minorities. Of the eight, three minorities is in a full-time, on-going position, even though the vast majority of the positions are part-time for one semester. Our long-term goal is to recruit eighteen (18) additional minorities for a total of twenty-six (26).

Administrative Academic Staff (Job Groups 20 and 21) –Information generated indicates that at this level, greater efforts need to be exerted to recruit more minorities in the senior academic administrator job group (Job Group 21) and more minorities in the executive administrator (Job Group 20).

1.   Faculty
College of Business, Industry, Life Science and Agriculture – There are six (6) position searches underway for this group the coming academic year. There is currently no underutilization for women or minorities.

College of Liberal Arts and Education – There are six (6) position searches underway for this and the coming academic year. Based on availability, the expected number of women is 53, while we have 37. Our goal is to hire for women during this search period.

College of Engineering, Mathematics and Science – There are currently seven (7) position searches underway. Based on availability, there is no underutilization.

2.   Academic Staff
Lecturers – This job group continues to be underutilized for minorities. Most positions in this job group are part-time for one semester only.

3.   Classified Staff
Positions are usually filled through union transfer rights. Therefore, it is difficult to access the pool of minority and female candidates.
