Minutes of November 5, 1998 Meeting The meeting was called to order by President Erin Rischette at 4:04PM. 1. Announcements * T-shirts are still for sale for $10 dollars. We have a white and gray shirt with the same design on both. * Holiday Visit Program - Looking for students to visit their high schools over the holiday/semester break. If you are interested, email KARRMANN or NORLANDE by November 12. * Thanks to all of the volunteers who helped out with the book sale last week. We've made a great deal of money selling books this semester. * Letter from St. Mary's - thanks to all of those who helped with the school show at St. Mary's for Physics is Phantastic * Materials Science Program - Madison will be hosting s materials science open house next Saturday, November 14. Schools such as Iowa State, Michigan Tech, UW-Milwaukee, and Marquette are co-hosting this event. If you are interested, Erin has information as does Dr. Young. You will need to email Dr. Young or see him to let him know you are interested. This information has to be in by November 8. * Mark Bertolasi, our VP and Treasurer qualified to receive University Driving Authorization. He can drive the vans now. * We need volunteers who would like to judge science fair in Muscoda on November 24 from 3:45 pm to 5:15 pm. This is a lot of fun. About three or four of us went with Dr. Domann last year. Things such as Rube Goldberg, Physics Demo, and Inventions will all be judged. We need 8 people who would be willing to go and we need to know ASAP. 2. The minutes of 10/15/98 were approved as written. 3. The Treasurer's Report was given by VP/Treas Mark Bertolasi. 4. Committee Reports: Sunrayce - Sean said that there is a big meeting tonight at 7PM. Physics is Phantastic - Presented elecricity and magnetism demonstrations at St. Mary's in town. Received a letter. Colloquium - Erin Rischette talked about her summer research experience. Ideas are needed. Trip/Social - Two weeks ago, wonderful day canoeing on the Wisconsin. Last weekend, Dave and Geoff in a leaky canoe Christmas Social: December 11 - mark your calendars. Trips: Fermi Lab and Sci and Ind Museum in Jan/Feb. SPS Zone Meeting - Will not meet until Illinois trip. 5. Zone Meeting at Ilinois State - Bloomington Normal - Four people going. 6. Test Packets/Book Sales: No packets need to be copied - more were found. Still books to sell. 7. Undergrad Research Award - Idea: SPs forms an umbrella for high school science clubs in state. A group was formed. Marsh White Award - Applying for another. Need to spend money received, Propane tank for flame tube demo. 8. Other Steve Falker, US Navy, wants to give a presentation on the Navy's Nuclear Propulsion Officer program. He will provide FREE PIZZA AND SODA. Travis Norhling motioned to invite him to talk as a colloquim at our next meeting. Geoff Barrows seconded it. This will occur on Nov. 19. Amy motioned to adjourn. Jason Fingerson seconded.
