Minutes for November 4, 1999

The meeting was called to order by President Erin Rischette at 4:03 PM. 

1.  Announcements
    A.  SPS has a mailbox in the dean's office!
    B.  There are only 2 more meetings this semester.
    C.  If you received a renewal form in the mail, throw it out.  If   
        someone would like to join SPS, please contact Professor 
        Wilson.
    D.  There will be a Physics is Phar-Out presentation/training    
        session after the meeting.

2.  Approval of Minutes
    Physics spelled incorrectly in 5.B.

3.  Treasurer's Report 
    Scholarship money has been allocated.

4.  Committee Reports
    A.  Physics is Phar-Out
        i.   There will be 2 shows Wednesday, November 17 at O.E. Gray 
             Elementary school in Platteville. Presentation for 3&4 
             grade students - there should be about 40 students! If you 
             plan to attend, meet at 12 in room 205 Otts. We should  
             return around 2:30 PM. 
        ii.  There will be 3 shows in Belmont Tuesday November 23.  
             They should last from about 7:30 to 11:30 AM. 
    B.  Colloquium 
        Mark Rank and Dr. Hamilton have been e-mailed.
    C.  Trip/Social
        i.   Genoa trip this Saturday, November 6. There are still 1 or 
             2 spots 
             left, if anyone is still interested in going.
        ii.  The SPS Christmas Social is Friday, December 3 at 
             Professor Wilson's home. There will be a cookie bake 
             Thursday, December 2 starting at 1 PM in 205 Otts. 
    D.  Bulletin Board
        i.   There has been some astronomy added to the board! The 
             Transit of Mercury will take place Monday, November 15, at 
             around 3:41 PM. Harvey Hensley will have a telescope out.  
             Check out the calendar for details!

5.  Marsh White
    The title of our Physics workshop on Satuday will be Phar-Out 
    Phunshop.  It will be a series of small shows and some workshops 
    where kids can make things! The choices for dates were April 15 and 
    March 5. Adam moved that it take place April 15. Seconded by Jill.  
    The motion was passed.

      d. T-Shirts
      e. Registration fee ($2-5)
      f. Lunch
      g. Parent involvement? Chaperones?

6.  Canoes
    The canoes will likely be built through a special topics course. 
    Professor Wilson is working on setting that up with the Department 
    Chairman.
