Minutes for September 30, 1999

The meeting was called to order by President Erin Rischette at 3:34 PM.

1.  Announcements
    A.  Please fill out a class schedule so you can be included in 
        activities that take place during your free hours.
    B.  Membership Forms
        i.  If you have not yet filled out a Membership form, you may
            still do so, but it needs to be soon! Invite your friends to
            join. 
        ii. As of January of 2000, National SPS dues will be raised to $20.
    C.  The SPS storage/study room is now open. We will be sharing this 
        with the Alchemists. Please make use of this room as a study room
        so that it is actually being used.

2.  Changes to Minutes
    A.  If you wish to attend the SPS show in Dickeyville, please meet
        in 205 Otts at 11:40 AM.

3.  Treasurer's Report: There has been no change in the SPS account.

4.  Committee Reports
    A.  Physics is Phar-Out
        i.   Wednesday, October 6th SPS will be traveling to Holy Ghost
             Elementary school in Dickeyville. If you are planning to 
             attend please meet in 205 Otts at 11:40 AM. The show starts 
             at 12:30 PM and will last approximately one hour. 
        ii.  SPS will put on a show at Platosi elementary school on
             October 11. The show will begin at 8:15 AM. If you wish to
             attend, meet in 205 Otts at 7:30 AM. We should return by 
             11 AM.
    B.  Colloquium
        i.   Erin Rischette put on her show Wednesday, September 29th. 
        ii.  Friday, October 8th a friend of Hal Evensen's from Madison
             will be putting on a colloquium in 222 Otts. Please invite
             your friends!
    C.  Trip/Social
        i.   There will be a Tour of Genoa Nuclear Plant October 9th. 
             We will leave at 9 AM and return around 2 PM. Please e-mail
             SPS if you are planning to attend by Wednesday, October 5th.
        ii.  There are plans coming up soon... please check out the 
             Bulletin Board for dates!
    D.  The Bulletin Board had be completely redone! The bulletin board is 
        located in the NE corner of 2nd floor Otts. Check it out!

5.  This year is Erin's last year as Associate Zone Councilor. There will 
    be someone new for the next term! 
    A. Dues for National SPS are going up to $20.
    B. Sigma Pi Sigma dues will be raised to $25.
    C. Erin is going back to DC 2 more times!

6.  SPS has an obligation to be involved in spreading phyisics to everyone!
    Our SPS is involved in Outreach Programs, Colloquims, Social Events, 
    Zone Meetings, and is a vital part of UW-Platteville's physics 
    department. We are set to be an Outstanding SPS Chapter again this
    year! Get involved and help get others involved as well!

7.  One of the major fundraiser SPS does is selling old exams. This is not
    difficult to do. It involves wheeling out the cart and sitting in front of
    the door to physics classes for about 8 minutes. Please help by
    taking a spot selling!

8.  International week is October 4-8 from 5-7 PM in the Touche room. 
    Check it out!

9.  There will be a meeting this Thursday, October 6th, at 4 PM.
