Minutes for September 16, 1999

The meeting was called to order by Vice President Travis Norling
at 4:02 PM.

1.  Announcements
    A.  A sign-up for was passed around for the renewal of SPS with
        the university.
    B.  Membership forms for SPS and the National SPS Organization
        and fees for joining are due at the pizza party on Friday. 
        $15 for National SPS Organization and $5 SPS dues.

2.  Approval of Minutes from September 2: Mark moved to approve the
    minutes, and Adam seconded the motion.

3.  Treasurer's Report
    A.  The checking account for SPS has been opened at Mound City
        Bank.

4.  Committee Reports
    A.  Physics is Phar-Out
        i.   There will be a show Wednesday, October 6 in Dickeyville
             at 12:30 PM. It will last approximately an hour. If you 
             would like to attend, please meet in 205 Otts at 12:10 PM.
        ii.  Two other schools have expressed interest in having SPS
             do a show for them. 
        iii. There was a suggestion the Belmont be contacted about
             possibly having a show there.
    B.  Colloquium
        i.   Erin Rischette will be presenting on Wednesday, 
             September 29, in 205 Otts.  The Presentation is on REU 
             which took place at Indiana University Cyclotron Facility
        ii.  Jim Hamilton is a chemistry professor who will be doing a 
             walking colloquium showing labs and on-going research.  
        iii. Hal Evensen will be present either October 8 or 15 on
             undergraduate research at Madison.
    C.  Trip/Social
        i.   Canoeing was great! We canoed the Wisconsin River, and it
             was a beautiful day, however, we had a canoe stolen.
        ii.  Pizza Party is September 24!
        iii. There will be a tour of the Powerplant in Genoa, Wisconsin
             October 2 or 9.
    D.  Bulletin Board
        i.   There will be a new theme for fall. The Bulletin Board
             is located in the NE corner of 2nd floor Otts. 
             Check it out!
5.  Pizza Social/Recruitment
    A.  Membership forms and dues for local and National SPS are due
        at the Pizza party.
    B.  The pizzas will be made ahead and taken out to be eaten. 
    C.  Anyone have tomatoes for pizza sauce? Bring to pizza preparation
        in 205 Otts between 1-4.
    D.  Invite your friends! 
    E.  Pizza Makers: Mark, Travis, Amy, Jason, Jill, Chris
    F.  Make Cookies too? 

6.  Alumni Secretary Committee
    A.  Travis(chair), Amy, Chris, Jenny, Ozner
    B.  A letter needs to be put out for Alumni to come to the Pizza
        Party!

7.  Making Canoes
    A.  Make some of our own Cedar Strip Canoes! 
    B.  Fun times, working and being social
    C.  Takes a total of about 100 hrs for one person, maybe an assembly
        line could make 2 or 3 in that amount of time.
    D.  Minimal knowledge needed
    E.  Plaque with names of people who helped make canoes and 
        SPS/UW-Platteville
    F.  People interested: Chris, Adam, Travis, Jill, Amy, Jason, 
        Craig, TJ

Mark moved to ajourn at 4:59 PM.  The motion was seconded by Adam.
