Minutes for April 27, 2000 The meeting was called to order at 4:03 PM by President Erin Jo Rischette. 1. Announcements A. Congratulations to SPS, we won a prize at EXPO! Expo pictures will be on the webpage soon. 2. Approval of Minutes from April 6 1.A.1. "Machining Lubricants" The minutes were approved with the change. 3. Treasurer's Report No significant activity. 4. Committee Reports A. Physics is Phar-Out i. The show at Mineral Point went well. Thanks Erin for helping! The teacher there was very excited, classes were good. ii. There was a show at Audobon School in Dubuque, which went well. Interesting teacher, and one of the girls had the best hair for the vandegraph. Check out the webpage for pictures! B. Colloquium TODAY! Dr. Hamilton will be presenting a colloquium on Non-Linear Optics, here, in 205 Otts immediately following the meeting. Check it out! C. Trip Social i. The Zone meeting was interesting. Dinner at a Greek restaurant that was very crowded. It was hard to hear the speaker. The presentation was on number theory. They toured a lab, saw a 10^18 W laser which is used to generate x-rays. Talks in the morning were primarily UIC students. Met up with 5 guys from Carthage College, who would like to get together sometime. ii. The SPS Spring Social is TOMORROW! That is Friday, April 28 at 5 PM down at the driving range. There will be a cost of $1 for non-members. Volleyball,frisbee, football come down for a great time! D. Bulletin Board No report. 5. Elections A. President Mark Broker is the new SPS president! Mark won the vote 11 to 2 against Jeff Widiker. Congratulations Mark! B. Vice President Geoff Barrows is the new SPS VP! The count was Geoff Barrows: 9, Amy Sandberg:4, Chris Bonde: 1, Brian Rach: 0. Congratulations Geoff! C. Treasurer Amy Sandberg is the new SPS Treasurer! Two votes. The first vote was Amy: 6,Jessica Erickson: 4, Jill Pamperin: 3, Chris Bonde: 1. Amy won the second vote9 to 5 against Jessica. Congratulations Amy! D. Secretary Jessica Erickson is the new SPS secretary! The vote was unanimous! Congratulations Jessica! Jessica moved to adjourn at 4:40 PM. The motion was seconded by Geoff.
