Minutes for April 6, 2000 The meeting was called to order at 4:01 PM by President Erin Jo Rischette. 1. Announcements A. Dr. Wilfred Tysoe 1. There will be a seminar put on by Dr. Wilfred Tysoe, from the department of Chemistry at UW-Milwaukee on Thursday April 13, 2000 at 4:00 PM in 122 Otts. The seminar will be "Machining Lubricants: What They Do & How They Work." 2. If you are interested in graduate studies at UW-Milwaukee, Dr. Tysoe will be available from 12:00-4:00 PM on Thursday to visit with students. B. If you are graduating December, Career Planning and Placement will have informational sessions in 101 Russell Hall in the BILSA computer lab. To attend one of the following sessions, stop by second floor Pioneer Tower or call 342-1183. 1. Wednesday, April 12; 3-4 PM 2. Thursday, April 13; 3-4 PM 3. The minutes from March 23, 2000 were approved with the following changes: A. 1.D. Registration fee of $10 B. Motion to adjourn at 5:06 PM 3. Treasurer's Report We purchased checks, $122 in petty cash. 4. Committee Reports A. Physics is Phar-Out Watch for e-mails about these events! 1. There will be a show Tuesday, April 11 in Mineral Point starting at noon. Meet in 205 Otts at 11:00 AM. We should return about 3:30 PM. Three shows, all 5th grade. 2. On Tuesday, April 18 there will be a show for Audobon school in Dubuque for 4th - 6th graders. Meet at 10:45 AM, show will start at noon. We should return around 4:00 PM. 3. We will be changing the name of the school trip committee at the meeting in May. Starting thinking of words that could have the "Ph" sound! B. Colloquium The colloquium put on by Dr. Hamilton has been moved due to Dr. Tysoe. The colloquium will be held April 27th immediately following the meeting. C. Trip/Social 1. The canoe trip after Expo went well... was a little short, about 45 minutes, some mini rapids, Jason Anibas got a little wet "by choice." :) 2. Chicago trip is canceled due to lack of people able to go. Jessica will attend zone meeting. Directions to zone meeting can be found on UIC SPS website. 3. Zone meeting: Jason Anibas moved to fund half the price to stay, seconded by Mark Bertolasi... Chris Bonde made a friendly ammendment to change to $20 for each person. The motion passed with 1 abstention. D. Bulletin Board There is a new board up! Check it out! 5. SPS Scholarships There were a total 3 scholarships given, congratulations to Jason Anibas, Brian Rach and Chris Bonde! Remember to apply for scholarships in the future! 6. Spring Social The date of the SPS Spring Social will be April 28 (rain date: May 5). Cost will be $1 for SPS members and $2 for non-members. 7. Officer Nominations We need to have quarum at the meeting on April 27th to do elections! Please make an effort to attend. Canoes We are not likely to finish the third canoe this semester, however, the first two canoes are nearly done! Lots of help is needed to make sure they get done. Come help out this weekend!
