Minutes of February 4, 1999 Meeting The meeting was called to order by President Erin Rischette at 4:01PM. 1. Announcements - No Marsh White Award this year -- Standing wave pipe was considered too dangerous by Nat'l office. - No Undergraduate Research Award either. - Membership dues for new or expired members $2.50 for local. - Madison Expo is 4/16-18. Sign up by April 1. See John Schmitt. 2. The Minutes of 12/3/98 and 1/21/99 were approved as written. 3. Nothing from Treasurer/VP Mark Bertolasi. 4. Committee Reports Physics is Phantastic Bertolasi and Broker went to Benton to present for 15 students in the Junior/Senior Physics class. Dr. Hamilton's wife is the instructor. Colloquim - Erin is trying to contact Phil Sealy. Open to suggestions. Aaron Wilson volunteered to be the new chair. Trip/Social - Fixing the Canoes - Coleman Patch kit $30.80+tax or thermal weld plastic. Apparently the patches didn't work before. Fermi Lab - Aaron Wilson drove. Dave will be developing the pictures. Chicago Museum of Science and Industry - 2/27 (Saturday), $7 to get in, $7 for the movie. $12 for both. Will leave at 6AM behind Otts. UW-Madison Physics Presentaions and Tours, 2/20, leaving at 11AM behind Otts. It's FREE! Bowling - Deadline is 2/5 at 4PM. Bowl at 7:30 with NTSO for $7.50. Movie Night: February 12, Dr. Strangelove, 7PM in the room formerly known as the Morrow Cave. Other trips to the St. Paul Science Museum and others to be considered. Bulletin Board - REUs going up. SPS Zone Meeting Spring 99 - meeting after SPS meeting. 5. Sigma Pi Sigma - JJ Wilson needed concrete names for initiation: Geoff Barrows, Erin Rischette, Adam Draeger, Aufdermauer? March 11, 6PM, Platte Room of Ullsvik 6. Test Booklet Sales - For sale on 2/5 and 2/8. 7. Webmaster - Eric Lockman volunteered to take over SPS website maintenance from Sean Lynch. 8. Other Travis Norhling, SPS member and Math Club President, reiterated that he would like the Math Club to be involved with SPS events. He made a motion to include the Math Club for SPS events. Dave Minerath seconded the motion. Discussion revolved around the fact that SPS events were NEVER closed to other groups. However, money may be an issue. The motion passed unanimously. Aaron Wilson wants to know when we'll go caving next? Mark Eldredge motioned to adjourn the meeting. Aaron Wilson seconded. The meeting was adjourned, by consent, at 4:46PM.
