Minutes for February 3, 2000

The meeting was called to order by President Erin Rischette at 4:02 pm.

1. Announcements 
   A. Tau Beta Pi:  e-mail was sent out, applications are due February       
      15, 2000. 
   B. Local and National scholarships are due February 15, 2000. You must be a
      junior and EP major.  See Prof. Wilson for details. Also, posted 
      on bulletin board.

2. Approval of Minutes
   A. Minutes for December 2
      1. In section 4.A.i, "Lucas and Jill"
      2. In section 4.A.iii. "interested in presenting shows" not "colloquiums."
      3. In section 4.A.iii. "because" not "becuase."

3.  Treasurer's Report
    No new business.

4. Committee Reports
   A. Physics is Phar-Out 
      i. Next Thursday there will be a show at St. Mary's in 
         Bloomington.  We will be leaving around 7 am.  There will 
         be 2 shows, one at 8:15 (3rd - 5th grades) and
         one at 9:15 (6th - 8th grades).  We will return around 11 am.
   B. Colloquium
      i.  Dr. Hamilton is putting on a walking colloquium Thursday, 
          February 10 at 4:30 pm.  Meet in 205 Otts at 4:15 pm.  Interested 
          in research? This is a great chance to get involved.
      ii. Students returning from coop will be putting on colloquiums 
          in the future.
   C. Trip/Social
      i.  Last weekend there was a trip to Spring Green to look at some 
          homemade cedar strip canoes.  "Those Canoes are really, really 
          cool," says Jason. 
      ii. Fermi Lab trip will be February 26th.  We will be meeting up 
          with a group from Purdue!  It's a great chance to meet other 
          SPSers.  We've got a big van!
   D. Bulletin Board
      i. New calendars are up! Please do not take down the old calendars.

5. Physics is Phar-Out Workshop is coming up quick!  On March 25, kids will
   come and participate in workshops, shows and get lunch! We need lots 
   of help, so get involved! Committees:
   A. Room Reservations - all setup, just call and reserve
   B. T-Shirt Design - coordination
   C. School Contacts - Mark will be helping
   D. Food
   E. Workshops 
      i. Write up directions
      ii. Make and example

6. Sigma Pi Sigma 
   A. Requirements:  3 semesters of physics, upper 1/3 of class. 
   B. See Prof. Wilson for details.

7. Canoes 
   We have one mold, 2 strongbacks, and wood.  We can store stuff in 222. 
   Working this weekend, Friday at 3 and Saturday about noon. 

8. Expo
   Expo will be 6 days after Physics workshop.  There will be no classes
   that day, so everyone can participate!

9. Leadership awards 2000 due March 8.  There are forms for outstanding
   organization, 3 individual awards and staff awards.
