Minutes for January 20, 2000 The meeting was called to order by President Erin Rischette at 4:05 pm. 1. Announcements A. If you have not payed your membership dues (ie: co-op students), pay your $2.50 local dues, but it is recommended you wait until fall for national. However, if you want to apply for the scholarship, you will need to pay national dues now too. 2. The minutes from the December 2nd meeting were not prepared due to a minor mixup. 3. Treasurer's Report No report. 4. Committee Reports A. Committee Chairs New Colloquium chair is Jill! B. Physics is Phar-Out i. Information about upcoming activities coming soon! C. Colloquium ii. Upcoming colloquiums could include: Mark Rank, Dr. Hamilton, Dr. Hensley and/or Coop Students D. Trip/Social i. January 29, 2000 we will be going to Spring Green to look at some canoe building ideas. Meet behind Otts, we're leaving at 8 am. We should be returning about 1 or 2 pm. ii. Some ideas for the Spring Semester Calendar include: Argyle, Science Museum, Canoeing, Caving, Aquarium, Fermi Lab, and a Planetarium visit. E. Bulletin Board New calendars! If you notice the old calendars up on the board, please leave them there. 5. The Physics is Phar-Out Workshop will be on March 25th. The kids will come to UWP and be able to make a project related to physics, and then we will explain how it works. Cost for kids is about $5. We will also be handing out T-shirts. Design ideas are needed! Also, volunteers to help out are needed - there's lots to do! 6. Sigma Pi Sigma, the physics honors society, is looking for people who are eligible to join. Students with 3 or more physics classes, and a GPA of 3.0 or above in those classes are eligible to join. Talk to Professor Wilson if interested. 7. Canoes There will be tutorial directly after this meeting, with packets for specialized areas of work. This will also be a preparation for the trip to Spring Green so we can ask "educated" questions. :) 8. Other A. Test Booklets need to be updated soon! Jeff and Mark are going to look into the updates. Mark made a motion to adjourn at 5:43 pm. It was seconded by Brian.
