The goal of the SAE Aero Design Competition is to design and build a model aircraft that can carry a large payload. The combined width, length, and height is restricted to under 225 in. The engine is limited to a specific Magnum .61 cubic inch displacement running Byron 15% nitro glow fuel. Aircraft are required to take off in a given distance, fly one circuit of the field, and land within a specific landing zone.
