Update:

UW-Platteville Formula SAE 02/08

The Chassis team worked very hard toward the end of Christmas break to get the visible chassis built. The chassis is almost complete, and is currently being finish welded.  Suspension components continue to be built and added. Once all welding is complete, the 4130 Chromoly will be heat treated.

The electronics team has been working very hard recently. They have completed the brake light. It is shaped to read UW-P. They also have done some work on an electronic shifter to possibly be used next year. Their latest project is working on the Mega-Squirt ECU unit to get the engine running.

The engine team has received their custom intake from ATI Accelerated Technologies Inc. for the 2002 Yamaha R6 engine. The team is working on the custom oil pan that will offer more ground clearance. The engine team is also working on a header design that will allow better flow for the re-tuned and fuel injected engine.

Now that the chassis is done, drivetrain the parts can be mounted on the car. The drivetrain will be based off of last year’s successful design with minor alterations. It will consist primarily of ATV parts along with custom hubs, axles and chain drive gears with predetermined final drive ratios.  Many components are being CNC machined for tight tolerances needed for high speed rotating parts.
The controls team is working on fabricating pedals, a pedal tray and the shifter that were designed last semester.  They are also designing the dash and gauge cluster for the car.  A new seat is also being custom made using composite materials.

The body team has started designing the body for our car on solid works. The nose cone is just about done and then the rest of the body will soon follow.  Making the mold for the nose cone will begin shortly.
