Preamble
The Pre-Veterinary Club is an organization for students who are interested in veterinary medicine, animal health, and related fields. In particular, it hopes to acquaint the student with the varying aspects of veterinary medicine - disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, surgery, research, and related fields.
Section 1.
The name of this club shall be the University Pre-Veterinary Club.
Section 2.
The purpose of this club shall be to help students realize the duties and responsibilities placed on the veterinarian and decide whether or not they can meet these duties. The purpose of the club shall also be to introduce students to other careers related to animal health and medicine, should they choose not to pursue a career in veterinary medicine.
Article II. Membership
Section 1.
Active Membership. Any student who has an interest in animals, especially the area of animal health, and is enrolled in the UW System is entitled to become an active member of the Pre-Veterinary Club upon payment of dues.
Section 2.
Faculty Membership. Any faculty member of UW-P is welcomed as a member. Dues will not be required of the faculty, but donations will be welcomed. Participation is essential for membership.
Article III. Officers and Their Duties
Section 1.
The constitutional officers of the club shall be -- a President, a Vice-President, a Secretary, a Treasurer, a Historian and 2 Ag-Council Representatives.
Section 2. President.
1. Preside over all meetings.
2. Present a meeting agenda at the beginning of each meeting.
3. Fill all vacancies by appointment not otherwise provided for.
4. Perform all expected duties and responsibilities of the office.
5. Be an ex-officio member of all committees and be responsible for their progress.
Section 3. Vice-President.
1. Assist the president in his/her executive duties and act as chairperson in the absence of the president.
2. Act as chair person of the executive committee.
3. Act as the chair person of the outreach and guest speaker committee.
4. Be in charge of obtaining and maintaining the academic files.
5. Serve as club parliamentarian.
Section 4. Secretary.
1. Coordinate with the treasurer to keep the roll of membership.
2. Record the minutes as described in the secretary's handbook.
3. Attend to all correspondence of the club and keep a file of the same.
4. Keep an up-to-date address, email, and telephone number list of all of the club's members.
5. Email the club of all meetings and events.
6. If not present, have the treasurer write the meeting's minutes.
Section 5. Treasurer.
1. Receive all dues and fees.
2. Keep an accurate, up-to-date record of all receipts and expenditures.
3. Pay bills and reimbursements only as are authorized by a quorum vote. (A funding request must be filed for all reimbursements prior to the meeting.)
4. Make a complete report as directed by the president. This report shall be given at each meeting of each month and shall include total income, expenditures, and current account balance.

6. Bring the receipt book and checking account balance to all meetings; if not able to be present at a meeting, must appoint a proxy to be there in his/her place.
Section 6. Historian
1. Take pictures of all club events or appoint another member to do so if he/she cannot be in attendance.
2. Keep all pictures and other club memorabilia (newspaper clippings, etc.) in a photo album or scrap book.
3. Coordinate with the secretary to keep the on-line photo album up-to-date.
4. Act as the chair person of the publicity committee.
5. Make sure that signs are posted for all meetings and events of the Pre-Vet Club.
6. Put up the display case during the club’s assigned week.
Section 7. Ag-Council Representatives.

Section 8. Advisor.
The advisor shall be a member of the staff or faculty at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. The advisor can evaluate the program and general conduct of the club with or without being requested to do so by the executive committee. The advisor should also contact the web development team to update the member’s web access annually.
Article IV. Qualifications and Election of Officers
Section 1.
Election of officers will be held at the second-to-last meeting of the Spring Semester and re-elections may be held as members see fit. A full term will be one year.
Section 2.
Members may become candidates for office even if it is known that they will graduate or leave campus before their term expires.
Section 3.
Any member may run for consecutive terms.
Section 4.
Any officer who is found lax in his/her duties may be recalled by a 2/3's majority vote of the quorum at any regular meeting. Such action may be taken after the officer has been advised by the other officers and given an opportunity to appear before the officers of the club. Any officer who has been recalled has the option to appeal their case to the executive committee.
Lax may be defined as missing three or more meetings without notifying a fellow officer or advisor or not fulfilling his/her duties in a timely manner as determined by the executive committee and the advisor.
Section 5.
All officers shall be elected by a majority vote of the members present at the designated meeting for election of officers with a minimum of five club members present.
Article V. Committees and Their Duties.
Section 1.
The president after consultation with the advisor and other club officers shall make all committee appointments not taken care of otherwise in the constitution.
Section 2.
The advisor shall be advisor to all committees and the President.
Section 3. Executive Committee.
The executive committee shall consist of the President,Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Historian, Ag-Council representatives, and the advisor. The duties of the committee are:
1. To prepare a tentative program of activities and attend to other business of the club.
2. To interpret the constitution.
3. To audit the treasurer's records at the end of each term.
4. To appoint all standing committees.
5. To train the new officers at the end of each spring term.
Section 4. Constitution
1. Review the constitution at the beginning of each fall semester of even numbered years and edit it when necessary to clarify it or to bring it up-to- date.
2. Present the revisions to the club to be voted on.
Section 5. Activity Committee.
1. Plan at least one outreach each semester.
2. Plan at least one guest speaker each semester.
3. To propose and carry out fund raising projects each semester.
4. To find out where club members' interests lie and what trips they would like to attend.
5. To setup activities and trips for the club and individual members.
6. To work with the fundraising committee and the treasurer to help fund activities.
Section 6. Professional Networking Committee
1. Keep a record of professional contacts.
2. Make this list available on-line to all club members.
Section 7.
Committees may be any size.
Section 8.
Committees may be rotated through the year.
Section 9.
Special committees may be appointed by the Executive Committee when deemed necessary or authorized by the club.
Article VI. Membership Dues and Fees
Section 1.
The amount of the membership dues will be determined by the members at the beginning of the fall semester.
Section 2.
Special fees may be assessed by a majority vote of the quorum of the membership at any regular meeting.
Article VII. Meetings
Section 1.
Meetings shall be held bi-monthly. The club may suspend meetings during examination week or for any other reason voted on by the membership. The President or a majority of the membership may call a special meeting when it is deemed necessary.
Section 2.
Any amendments to this constitution must be approved by the club itself.
Section 3.
The meeting dates and times will be announced on the bulletin board on first floor of Russell Hall, via club email, and will be posted on the Pre-Vet Club web page.
Article VIII. Webmaster Duties
Section 1.
Shall be performed as a part of the Historian's duties.
1. All necessary skills will be taught to new historian by the historian of the year before.
2. If unable to maintain the club's web page, the historian may appoint a proxy to do so.
Section 2.
The website located at http://www.uwplatt.edu/org/pre_vet shall contain at least each of the following sections as described below.
1. Introduction to the Club: containing an overview of the club and information regarding how to contact and join.
2. Meeting & Event Schedules: posting all events, and including a subsection of all minutes from recent and past years.
3. Officer Contact List: including names, positions, phone numbers, and email addresses of all officers.
4. Constitution: a posting of the full, current constitution of the club.
5. On-Line Photo Album: a collection of past club photos.
6. Links to Information & Resources: include listings of internships and other pre-vet related sites.
7. Veterinary Information: useful articles and other items regarding Veterinary Medicine.
8. A link to send e-mail to the club account.
Section 3.
Provide access to passwords and ability to send email to all officers of the club.
Section 4.
Work with the historian in order to maintain the online photo album.
Article IX. Anti-discrimination Clause
Members and candidates for membership will not be discriminated against on the basis of race, color, sex, religion, or national origin.
