The current version of Thunderbird can be downloaded from the software download page or from Mozilla's website . Download the installer and launch it. You will be presented with the following screen:
Click "Next" to continue...
Select " I Accept the terms of the License Agreement" then click "Next" to continue...
Click "Next" to continue...
Thunderbird, will now finish installing.
If you wish to configure Thunderbird at this time, leave a check in the box marked "Launch Mozilla Thunderbird 1.5 now"
and click "Finish" to complete the installation.
Configuring Thunderbird 2
Click "Next" to setup an email account
Enter your full name in the "Your Name" field.
Then enter your email address in the "Email Address" field.
Click "Next" to continue...
For this demonstration we will not be importing settings from any other programs.
If this dialogue box is presented please select "Don't import anything" then click "Next".
Select either the POP or IMAP server configuration. The difference between the two can be found here.
If you selected IMAP enter "imap.nw.uwplatt.edu" (without the quotes) in the "Incoming Server" field,
otherwise enter "pop.nw.uwplatt.edu" (without the quotes) in the field if you selected POP.
Enter "smtp.nw.uwplatt.edu" (without the quotes) in the "Outgoing Server (SMTP)" field.
Click"Next" to continue...
Enter your UW-Platteville NetID in each of the User Name text fields.
Click"Next" to continue...
Enter a name in the " Account Name " text field to distinguish between different accounts.
Click " Next " to continue...
Click " Finish " to close the configuration window.
Configuring SMTP authentication for Thunderbird 2
To enable out going mail authentication in Mozilla Thunderbird 2 please follow these steps.
Click on Tools then Account Settings
You will be presented with the following screen:
Click on the Outgoing Server (SMTP) account then click Edit
Within the SMTP Server window make sure there is a check mark in the box next to "Use name and password", and verify that your username is the same as your UW-Platteville NetID
Also make sure that the radial button next to "SSL" is checked and click "OK".
Configuring SSL in Thunderbird 2
To setup SSL, please select Tools then select Account Settings
In the "Server Settings" on the left hand side of the window, then select "SSL" under Security Settings.
Configuring the Campus Address Book in Thunderbird 2
To setup the UW Platteville Address Book, select "Composition and Addressing" from the left-hand menu.
On the right hand side select the button for " Use a different LDAP server".
Then click the " Edit Directories" button.
Click " Add"...
At this screen enter in the name for the address book.
"UWPlatteville LDAP" (without quotes) is fine.
Enter "ldap.nw.uwplatt.edu" (without quotes) in the "Hostname" field.
Now your finished installing and configuring Thunderbird 2.
