This tutorial is a breif introduction to the Email client provided by Apple. This application is called Mail, and it's fairly simple to setup. Follow these instructions and you will have Mail syncronized with your UW-Platteville Email.

To start, open Mail (by default located in the dock, the icon is a stamp)and you will be presented with the following screen.

New Account Creation

Click "Continue" to proceed...

General Information

At this screen there are a few things you will need to change to allow for access on the UW-P network.
Under Account Type select IMAP.
For Account Description you can enter "IMAP Account" (without quotes) if not already present.
Enter your full name in the field Full Name.
For Email address enter your full UW-Platteville email address. (ex. username@uwplatt.edu)
Then click Continue to proceed.

Incoming Mail Server

For the Incoming Mail Server enter imap.nw.uwplatt.edu
User Name is your UW-Platteville NetID.
Password is the password you created for your UW-P account.

Then click Continue to proceed.

Outgoing Mail Server

For the Outgoing Mail Server enter smtp.nw.uwplatt.edu
User name and Password should automatically be filled in,
if not please enter this information in to the correct dialogue boxes.
Also make sure there is a check mark in the box next to "Use Authentication."

Then click Continue to proceed.

Configuration Finished

At this screen please review and make sure that all information is correct.

Then press Continue to proceed.

Now your finished with the configuration of Apple's Mail application.

Then press Done to finish configuration.

Configuring the Campus Address Book in MAIL(OSX)




Mail Options

To setup the UW Platteville Address Book, click Mail then click on Preferences.

Composing, Configure LDAP

Click "Composing" at the top of the window that will pop up...
Then click on Configure LDAP



Add LDAP Servers

At this screen click on the + to add a server.

Add LDAP Servers

At the Server Info screen enter the information as followed on screen.
Name: "UWPlatteville LDAP" (without quotes) is fine.
Server: "ldap.nw.uwplatt.edu" (without quotes)
Port: 389
Then click Save.

Finished

Click Done then you can close the Preferences window.


Now your finished installing and configuring Mail for OSX.
To use the address book simply start typing the recipiant's name then select from the address book.
