Distributed IT Support Staff

UW-Platteville uses a 'hub and spoke' IT support model with the OIT Help Desk acting as the virtual hub. One or more IT staff work within the major organizational areas of campus. The distributed support staff for each area is usually comprised of at least one professional IT staff person and one or more student employees.

This model allows the IT support staff to be closer to the end-user and the environment in which they work, thereby delivering high-quality focused support.

The distributed IT support staff meets regularly to discuss common IT issues and to develop solutions. This meeting is coordinated by the OIT Help Desk Manager and usually includes representatives from 'second level' support areas such as networking or operations. Other areas and resources are drawn upon as needed.
