Background

In order to provide a good user experience and maintain the integrity of the University's IT resources, the Office of Information Technology defines standards for connecting to the campus network.

The residence hall network (ResNet) is designed to accommodate one wired network connection per room occupant. The Office of Information Technology recognizes however that there are some cases where it would be advantageous for a user to be able to connect another network device into the campus network other than the traditional personal computer. This document provides some guidelines for ResNet users. Faculty and staff must have prior permission from the Office of Information Technology before plugging non-standard devices into the campus network.

NOTE: The Office of Information Technology reserves the right to disconnect any problematic device from the campus at any time without notice. In addition, the University is under no obligation to maintain connectivity to devices that do not support the University mission.

The types of devices specified in this document may change accordingly so it is recommended that you review this page before connecting any device to the campus network.
