How do I use the spam quarantine to manage my quarantined messages?

By default you will receive a weekly email letting you know if you have new messages in your spam quarantine.

Weekly Spam Quarantine Report

You can manage the messages listed in your weekly report from within the report email or by logging into the quarantine. Logging into the spam quarantine allows to work with your quarantined messages in greater detail than from within the report email.

You can log into the spam quarantine by one of two methods:

  1. Use the Check My Quarantine link on the E-mail @ UW-Platteville page
  2. Use the Click here to manage your quarantine link from within the weekly quarantine report email you receive.
After you've chosen one of the options above you will need to log into the quaratine using your campus NetID and password.



Quarantine Login

By default, each time you log into quarantine, the messages in the Spam tab are displayed.

Email messages are categorized in into the following spam categories under the corresponding category tab: If you want to view all of the messages in your quarantine, select All on the left.

Review your quarantined messages.

You can review your quarantined email messages directly from the quarantine by selecting or highlighting the message in the list and clicking the appropriate message action icon that appears at the bottom of the interface. The quarantine Sort feature sorts your quarantine messages by highlighting those items that are most likely false positives first, then by date. You can recognize a potential false positive message by its unique corresponding icon (!) in your quarantine. The larger the icon, the more likely it is that message may not be spam. A Filter option is also available to allow you to filter items in quarantine by subject keywords. You can also reorder items in your quarantine by clicking the arrow icon under Type, From, Subject, and Date.


What actions can I perform on quarantined messages?

Depending on which category the email message has been placed into, the following actions can be performed on the message. To perform an action on an email message you will need to highlight the message and click on the action button.
Messages categorized under Attachment can have the following actions performed on them: Messages categorized under Virus can have the following actions performed on them: You may find some messages under the Spam category that you do not wish to be placed into your quarantine or messages that you feel should be delivered rather than placed into quarantine. You can work with these messages to add them to your Allow or Block lists.

What policy preferences can I set for my quarantine?

If you select Policies under Preferences you can change how often you will receive the spam quarantine summary email. You can also choose the email format of the quarantine report email you receive.

Send reports as plaintext - The summary email will be sent as a plain text message.

Quarantine Report Type: If you choose to disable the quarantine summary report emails, you will need to remember to check your quarantine at least once every 30 days, as messages in the quarantine will automatically be deleted if not acted upon within 30 days.
