Using the NetWare Client for Windows, it is possible to restore accidentally deleted files on network storage, providing that the file has not otherwise been purged from the system.
In the example below, a file called "Important project.txt" was deleted and needs to be recovered.
- Locate the parent directory (in this case "2004")
- Highlight the directory and right-click. Select the option "Salvage Files..." from the pop-up menu.
- A list of files that have been deleted and are salvagable will appear. Note the date, time, and size of the file. This will help you distinguish which version of the file (of the same name) that you might want to salvage. Highlight the file or directory that you want to recover and click on the "Salvage File" button. If there are no more files or directories that you want to salvage, click on the "Close" button.
- Note that the file has been restored. Review the contents of the file to verify that this is the correct file. If it is not the correct file, delete it and perform the process again, choosing a file with a different date or size.
To recover whole directory structures and their contents, it is currently necessary to salvage each parent directory and it's files in turn until all files are recovered.
If you wish to submit a request to restore data from system backups, please fill out and submit this form. Note that the data in question must have existed during at least one nightly backup cycle for it exist in backups (ie. data created and deleted in the same day will not).
