There are three methods for removing Prosoft Engineering's NetWare Client for Mac OS 5.14. You may use any one of these methods. They are ordered by complexity.
- The NetWare Remover application
- The uninstall option of the MacIPX 5.14 Client Installer application
- Removing the individual components manually
Before proceeding, you should unmount any volumes and logout from eDirectory (NetWare client menu > Log Out Completely)
Remove Printers and Storage aliases
Before removing the client, you should remove any references to network resources that require the client. This includes any aliases to directories or volumes that you might have, or any desktop printers that you have defined that represent a network printer.
For desktop printers, you will need to select another printer as the default printer before Mac OS will let you delete the desktop printer icon.
NetWare Remover
When the client was initially installed, a directory called NetWare Client Utilities was created. Within this directory is an application called NetWare Remover.
Double-click on the NetWare Remover application to start it.
Click on the Remove button to proceed. As the dialog indicates, the client components will be removed and placed into the Trash. Restart to finish the client removal process.
Uninstall option of the Installer application
Double-click the NW Client 5.14 Installer application to start it. Continue past the initial splash screen, release notes, license agreement and registration screens.
The main option on the main install screen is Easy Install. Click on the drop down menu and select the Uninstall option.
Press Uninstall to remove the client.
Manually removing the client files
If you do not have the uninstall application or the install application, you can remove the client manually by removing all of it's component files.
The client software consists of 7 or 8 items in the System Folder. Preference files have no impact after the client is removed, so their removal is not part of these instructions. You can delete them at any time after the client has been removed.
Remove the MacIPX control panel
The MacIPX control panel provides the IPX protocol to the operating system. It is mainly used by the NetWare client, however some applications may use it for connectivity as well.
System Folder:Control Panels:MacIPX
Drag the MacIPX control panel into the Trash.
Remove the Extensions
The MacIPX Ethernet extension is a plug-in for the MacIPX control panel that is used to direct IPX over an Ethernet network interface.
System Folder:Extensions:MacIPX Ethernet
The NetWare extension is used by the Chooser to mount NetWare volumes.
System Folder:Extensions:NetWare
The NetWare Client extension and NetWare File Access extension are used to access files on NetWare volumes.
System Folder:Extensions:NetWare Client
System Folder:Extensions:NetWare File Access
The NetWare Queues extension is used to provide access to NetWare print queues that support PostScript.
System Folder:Extensions:NetWare Queues
Drag the MacIPX Ethernet (and MacIPX Appletalk if present), NetWare, NetWare Client, NetWare File Access, and NetWare Queues extensions to the Trash.
Remove the Printing plug-in extension
The HoseIPXLib extension is a printing plug-in for the Apple LaserWriter 8 printer driver that allows printing to NetWare print queues.
System Folder:Extensions:Printing Plug-ins:HoseIPXLib
Drag the HoseIPXLib extension to the Trash.
Finishing up
Empty the Trash and reboot your computer to finish the removal of the client. If any of the client files were in use, you may have to empty the Trash again after the reboot.
