Although any wireless network adapter that supports the 802.11b standard will currently work with the University's wireless network, it may not be able to meet future requirements.
Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) will be implemented in the future to help secure the wireless network. OIT suggests that wireless network adapters be purchased that are packaged with the Wi-Fi certified label and are interoperable with the 2.4 GHz band 11Mbps (802.11b) and Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) devices. Look for the check next to 11Mbps and Wi-Fi Protected Access on the label. It is also recommended that you purchase a network card that has upgradeable firmware. If you already own a wireless card, you may be able to upgrade the firmware to gain WPA support. Check with your vendor.
