UW-Platteville has licensed Symantec Anti-Virus Endpoint Protection (SAV EP) from Symantec, Inc. This license allows the University to install the SAV EP server and client
components on 4500 computers. This number represents all
University-owned computers, along with personal computers of students,
faculty and staff.
SAV EP can only be installed on personal computers of current UW-Platteville students, faculty, and staff.
When a student, faculty, or staff member is no longer enrolled or
employed at UW-Platteville, the SAV EP client must be removed.
The SAV EP client includes all of the functionality of Symantec's
consumer product, Norton AntiVirus 2009. The advantage of Endpoint Protection is that this client does not have the expiration date and includes free virus definition updates for the lifetime of the client.
The current version of SAV EP for Windows 2000/XP/Vista is: 11
Operating System: Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista
Memory: 256 MB RAM
The SAV EP Managed client should be used on all University-owned Windows computers. The SAV EP Managed client is setup to automatically receive client settings and virus definition updates from a UW-Platteville SAV EP parent server.
The SAV EP Unmanaged client should be used on the following systems:The Unmanaged client does not automatically receive updates from the UW-Platteville SAV EP server. Instead, virus definition updates from the Internet can be scheduled via LiveUpdate.
- Home computers of UW-Platteville faculty and staff.
- Personal computers of UW-Platteville students, including students in ResNet.
