UW-Platteville has
licensed Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition (SAV CE) from Symantec, Inc. This license allows the
University to install the Symantec's AntiCirus software on 4500 computers. This number represents all University-owned
computers, along with personal computers of students, faculty and staff.
Norton AntiVirus can only be installed on personal computers of current
UW-Platteville students, faculty, and staff. When a student, faculty, or
staff member is no longer enrolled or employed at UW-Platteville, the Norton AntiVirus software must be removed.

Memory: 128 MB RAM
Items you need to know before you begin:
- Do not
install Norton AntiVirus on a computer with another anti-virus client installed.
- If you have a previous version of Norton AntiVirus installed on your Macintosh, you may need to run the Symantec Uninstaller to remove the previous version before installing Norton AntiVirus 10. The Symantec Uninstaller is available on the Software
page at http://www.uwplatt.edu/go/software.
Download
To Download from web: Open a web browser and connect to the Software
page at http://www.uwplatt.edu/go/software.
Click the link to open the software page, and enter your eDirectory
username and password.
Follow the link to the Macintosh page, and select Norton AntiVirus
10.. When prompted, save this disk image on your local hard drive. Before you continue, make
sure that you close any applications that are currently running on your Macintosh.
Install
Using the Finder, browse to the
directory where you downloaded the Norton AntiVirus client and double-click on the file
you just downloaded (Norton Antivirus 10.0.dmg) to mount the disk image. The installation program reads “Norton
Antivirus 10.0 Corporate CD”. Double-click
on this program to run the installer.
The installation program will appear.
Double click on the “Norton AntiVirus Installer.”
The Norton AntiVirus welcome screen will appear. Click “Continue”.
The read me appears. Click “Continue”.
The Software License Agreement
now appears. Click “Continue”.
The installation program asks
whether you agree to the license agreement.
Click “Agree” to continue the installation.
The installation program now
asks where you would like Norton AntiVirus installed. Normally, you can accept the default
selection and click “Continue.”
Now, click “Install.”
Mac OSX requires that you type
your local account username and password to complete the installation. This is the username and password you use to
log in to your Macintosh computer.
Now, click “Continue
Installation.”
The installer now automatically
installs Norton AntiVirus.
After the installation is
complete, the installer program will ask you to logout. Click “Logout” to continue.
At the login screen, you can
simply log on as usual to return to the Mac OSX desktop. The installation is now complete.
LiveUpdate
It is recommended that you update Norton AntiVirus frequently. Click the orange and black circle in the top
right corner of your screen.
Select “LiveUpdate” menu, then
select “Open Live Update.”
The LiveUpdate wizard
appears. Select “Update Everything
Now.” The LiveUpdate program searches
for the latest updates. This process is
automatic.
A summary window will now be
shown. It lists the updates that were
installed on your computer. Click OK to
complete the LiveUpdate process.
