The Novell NetWare client is needed to access some campus network resources such as file sharing, printing, and applications.

If you already have a version of the Novell NetWare client installed on your computer, you can update to the most up-to-date version by using these instructions to install the client again.

The current version of Novell NetWare client for Windows 2000/XP is: SP5

Minimum Client Requirements:

Operating System: Windows 2000, or Windows XP Professional (Do not install on Windows XP Home Edition or Windows Vista)
Memory: 256 MB memory
Network Card: NIC installed, connected to the campus network, and configured with TCP/IP protocol
This installation is a four step process: Download, Extract, Install, Reboot.
  1. Download

Open a web browser and connect to the Software page at http://www.uwplatt.edu/go/software. Click the link to open the software page, and enter your eDirectory username and password. Follow the link to the Windows page, and select UW-Platteville NetWare Client Install - Windows 2000/XP Pro. When prompted, save this self-extracting archive file to a directory on your local hard drive. Before you continue, make sure that you close any applications that are currently running in Windows.

  2. You will need Administrative privileges in Windows 2000/XP Professional to proceed.

  3. Extract

Using the Windows Explorer, browse to the directory where you downloaded the client and double-click on the file you just downloaded (NWC_491SP5) to run the file. This will start the extraction process and give you a dialog similar to:
    Archive splash screen

Click on Yes. You will see a window that displays the status of the expansion of the installation archive.

    Unzip to folder...

  4. Install

The installation of the NetWare client install will start automatically after all install files have been extracted. The installation process may take a few minutes to complete.

(Note: To manually start the client install, run setupuwp.bat from the NWC_491SP5 directory that was just created.)

When the install process completes, you should see a dialog similar to:

    Installation complete

  5. Reboot

Select Reboot to reboot your workstation.
When the computer reboots, you should see a Novell Login window. Before you login for the first time, click the Advanced button and verify these settings: You can now enter your eDirectory username and password to login.

Cleaning up

Since they are no longer needed, you can now delete the archive file named NWC_491SP5 and the expanded directory named NWC_491SP5 from your local hard drive.
