Windows 200 and Windows XP can be configured to download updates automatically in the background and notify you when the updates are ready to be installed. This feature requires a minimum patch level of Service Pack 3 for Windows 2000. It is built-in to Windows XP.
Instructions for Windows 2000
- Click Start
- Select Settings
- Select Control Panel
- Double click Automatic Updates
- Make sure the option to "Keep my computer up to date...." is checked.
Select the option that works best for you and click the OK button.
Instructions for Windows XP
If you can see the "My Computer" icon on the desktop:
- Right click on My Computer
- Select Properties
- Click on the Automatic Updates tab
- Make sure the option to "Keep my computer up to date...." is checked.
If you can not see the "My Computer" icon on the desktop:
- Click Start
- Right click on My Computer
- Select Properties
- Click on the Automatic Updates tab
- Make sure the option to "Keep my computer up to date...." is checked.
Select the option that works best for you and click the OK button.
