Note that Windows Vista is NOT supported on University owned computers. The Office of Information Technology (OIT) currently has no plans to support any versions of Windows Vista on University owned computers. Support for Windows Vista is limited support only for personal faculty, staff, and student computers running Windows Vista.

For University owned computers, OIT plans on skipping Windows Vista and supporting Windows XP Pro until Windows 7 is available. At this time it appears that Windows 7 will be released in 2010. When Windows 7 is released OIT will immediatly work on testing this OS and verifying the compatibility with existing applications and peripherals. Once Windows 7 has broad support for the applications and hardware that is used at UW-Platteville, it will be added to the supported operating systems list.

Note that at this time OIT intends to support Windows XP Pro until at least 2014.

If you are a student at UW-Platteville, you can purchase a license and CD-ROM media for Windows Vista Business or Vista Ultimate for a discounted price. Details and purchasing information are available on the Wisconsin Integrated Software Catalog web page.
