How do I create a rule to file e-mail for me?

NOTE: The example used in this document illustrates how to file e-mail from a specific e-mail address, however it illustrates the rule engine in principal and can be adapted for general use.

Rules add a level of complexity that needs to be well understood before attempting. Bad rules can have a serious impact on your e-mail!

Example:

Situation: UserA receives lots of e-mail from UserB@uwplatt.edu.
Goal: Move e-mail from UserB@uwplatt.edu to a particular folder (From-UserB).

This exercise assumes that the destination folder (From-UserB) has already been created.

Log in to the UWP NetMail web client as UserA
Click on Settings in the upper right corner of the NetMail client toolbar
Click on the Rules tab
Click on the Create (+) icon.
The default rule is Any of the following conditions are met:.
Use the drop-down menu to select From as the Condition.
Leave the default Contains after the From field.
Put userb@uwplatt.edu in the blank field.
Select Move To from the drop-down box after "then perform the following actions:"
The default is INBOX. However you want to select the From-UserB folder from the drop-down.

Click the Create button
Click the Save button
Your new rule will now be listed under Rules.

You can use the checkbox to turn this rule on/off at any time. You can also use the Move Up or Move Down icons to change the order of the rule in the list of rules. Rules are processed in the order they are listed.

Based on this rule, all inbound messages from UserB@uwplatt.edu will go into the From-UserB folder.
