FAQs about Family Weekend
Below are some common questions about Family Weekend, along with the helpful responses from current UW-Platteville students and staff.
FAMILY WEEKEND, October 27-29, 2017
What is the check-in for? Do we have to check in for Friday and Saturday?
Check-in gives parents and students a place to meet. At check-in, you will receive an updated schedule, tour and/or class tickets if you pre-registered (first come, first served basis), and an opportunity to purchase tuition raffle tickets. You only need to check-in once.
Are the Family Weekend events appropriate for children?
We ask you to use your best judgment, as you know your family. All events are “rated PG-13.” That being said, in almost all cases, we work hard to provide a quality experience for ALL family members.
I want to go on a tour AND see classes. Can I do both?
The schedule for Tours and Classes is designed so that you can complete one. With so many events taking place during Family Weekend, we just run out of time. This just means that you have got to come back year after year!
Are there different prices for children for lunch and dinner?
$8.50 per adult for the Tailgate Lunch, $6.00 for children (Age 5-12) and children 4 and under eat free. Bridgeway Brunch costs $8.00 per person. Students may use meal swipes at either of these meals (depending on meal plan selected).
Do parents need to pay to get into the football or soccer games?
Parents and all non UW-Platteville students must pay to attend athletic events.
Football: Children under 16 = $6.00; Adults = $11.00; Senior citizens = $8.00
Soccer: Seniors and Children = $5.00; Adults = $7.00
What should we do for dinner on Saturday night?
Ask your student, ASAP. Be sure to make reservations, as we anticipate over 1000 family members visiting for Family Weekend. There are many dining options to choose from in Platteville, Dubuque, and the surrounding area.
When is the deadline to register?
The deadline to register for Family Weekend registration is appreciated before October 24, 2017. You may still attend Family Weekend and participate in events as space allows. Registration simply helps in our planning for events, food counts, etc.
Can I still attend if I didn't register ahead of time?
Yes, of course. You are almost always welcome and may still attend Family Weekend and participate in events as space allows. Registration simply helps in our planning for events, food counts, etc.
Do I need to re-register if the number attending in my party changes?
We would appreciate a phone call if your number changes drastically or you need to cancel. (608) 342- 7328 Otherwise we have flexibility in our schedule to accomodate any minor changes.
Where will I be able to park my vehicle during Family Weekend?
Parking in University lots is OPEN for all of Family Weekend. There may be a charge to park near the football field during game time.
Do we need to attend all the events this weekend?
No, you can choose which events you wish to attend. We plan activities for your family to spend time with your student on campus. However, we also build in a great deal of free time to enable you to reconnect with your student.
Do we pay for the tours or late night events?
The only tour/class to charge a fee is the Mining Museum, ($8/adult) where you will pay at the door of the museum (cash preferred, but cards accepted). There is no charge to attend Late Night Events, as they are covered by fees. Please refer to the overall schedule for notes on what things may cost money. (Meals, Football Game entry, etc.)
