PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – On Oct. 14, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville will play its third annual “Celebrate Agriculture” football game against the UW Oshkosh Titans. With sponsorship provided by Compeer Financial – a new cooperative formed as a result of the merger of Badgerland Financial, 1st Farm Credit Services and AgStar Financial Services – the School of Agriculture and Pioneer Athletic Department will join together to bring awareness and celebrate Wisconsin’s $88 billion agriculture industry.

“We are proud to support our university partners and celebrate our agriculture industry by partnering for this event,” Rochelle Ripp Schnadt, communications specialist at Compeer Financial and UW-Platteville graduate, said. “It’s a fun way to support the member-owners of our cooperative and a way to engage the community and university students, staff and alumni during Homecoming.”

As part of the Pioneers’ Homecoming festivities, the “Celebrate Agriculture” theme will commence with the day’s Homecoming parade at 10 a.m. where Pioneer Farm tractors will drive down Main Street of Platteville proudly displaying “Celebrate Ag” banners. The celebration will continue with a check presentation with Compeer Financial and the School of Agriculture representatives prior to kick off at 2 p.m.

Three years ago, then Badgerland Financial, approached UW-Platteville to begin the “Celebrate Agriculture” football game to raise awareness of the importance of agriculture in southwestern Wisconsin. It has been a popular annual tradition at the university ever since.

“We value our partnership with UW-Platteville and the outstanding ag schools in Wisconsin and we recognize that our future clients and employees graduate prepared to meet the needs of the agriculture industry,” Schnadt said.

In addition to sponsoring the “Celebrate Agriculture” football game, Compeer Financial has had a continuous partnership with UW-Platteville. Previous gifts and sponsorships from the business include last year’s lead sponsorship of $50,000 to the recently introduced Dairy Science program. In addition, the Farm Credit cooperative has also supported the UW-Platteville Beef Center Project, university scholarships, student organizations and internships.

“Compeer Financial’s continuous support of UW-Platteville is something every member of the university should appreciate,” Sandie Brick-Margelofsky, development officer for the College of Biology, Industry, Life Science and Agriculture, said. “This type of support is what makes UW-Platteville thrive academically, athletically and everywhere in between.”

The School of Agriculture at UW-Platteville is committed to excellence in undergraduate education and research, scholarly and professional activities, and service to the agriculture industry at the state, regional, national and global levels. UW-Platteville's School of Agriculture enrolls and provides practical learning experiences to approximately 800 students annually.

Compeer Financial is a member-owned farm credit cooperative supporting agriculture and rural communities. Based in the upper Midwest, Compeer Financial is the third largest cooperative of the Farm Credit System, a nationwide network of lending institutions supporting agriculture and rural communities with reliable, consistent credit and financial services.
