Students studying abroad at the University of the West of Scotland (UWS) have a wide range of opportunities available to them to enhance their experience outside the classroom. Opportunities include:

Excursions and Activities

The UW-Platteville Exchange program does not include organized excursions and activities, but students can organize independent travel on weekends and over university breaks. In Scotland, students could organize independent excursions to meet sheep dogs in the Highlands, visit Loch Ness and the ruins of Urquhart Castle (monster sightings possible), tour through Edinburgh and the Royal Mile, and much more.

Clubs and Organizations

UWS offers a variety of student clubs, organizations, sports, and activities, including:

STUDENT CLUBS AND ORGANIZATIONS

UWS also offers many student organizations and clubs which include, such as environmental, film making, international, photography, student newspaper, yoga, and more.  For more information on clubs and societies at UWS, visit the Student Association website.

UWS runs a Buddy Project. The UWS buddy project is a great way of settling into student life and study. The project offers informal friendly support by current students to all new students. If you wish to take part you will be matched with a student who will assist with your questions about student life and help you navigate your way around campus until you feel confident about finding your own way. Visit Buddy Project for further details.

UWS is a member of HOST, an organisation which offers international students the opportunity to spend time with a British family. You can choose where in Britain you would like to go, and sample real British life and culture and enjoy home cooked food! It’s free – you pay only for your travel expenses. Visit HOST for more information.

The West of Scotland has an extensive range of outdoor amenities, including world-class mountain biking, sailing, golf, swimming and horse-riding facilities.
