Walker receives WAHA Steve Falek Scholarship
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. — University of Wisconsin-Platteville student Brittany Walker, from Milwaukee, Wis., will be receiving a $1,000 scholarship from the Wisconsin Association of Housing Authorities Steve Falek Scholarship fund. The scholarship is only awarded to two winners throughout the state.
Recipients of the award must be enrolled full time and have a minimum grade point average of 2.75 or higher. Each applicant had to submit an essay entitled “My Career Goals,” as well as provide copies of their transcripts.
According to Robyn Hallet, scholarship committee chair, Walker was selected because, “She is a very dedicated full-time student, is very active with organizations on her campus, all while being a single mother and working part time.”
Walker has been invited to the scholarship award ceremony luncheon on Wednesday, April 10. The award luncheon will take place during the Wisconsin Association of Housing Authorities Spring Conference in Fond du Lac, Wis.
Walker very much appreciates this scholarship, stating, “I have come from a rough and impoverished childhood," she said. "I can remember when I did not know if I was going to be able to afford college. Therefore, I am very grateful for this opportunity and support from the Wisconsin Association of Housing Authorities, faculty, staff and friends.”
