UWP Winterim offers new courses
PLATTEVILLE - During Wisconsin's January deep freeze you can jump-start your education as well as your car engine.
In just two short weeks you can move a step closer to completing a degree or study a subject for personal enrichment during the University of Wisconsin-Platteville's Winterim, set for Jan. 6-18.
New for Winterim 2003 are a two-credit course, physical education for elementary schools, and a one-credit course, special topics: visual C#.Net, l, added primarily for private company staff members.
Other course offerings include financial accounting (three credits), play therapy (three credits), principles of microeconomics and human relations (three credits. The most popular course, taught by Peter Di Meglio, is world civilizations II (three credits) each.
Another section of foundations of American education (two credits) is being opened for Winterim 2003.
Introduction to women's studies (three credits) satisfies the requirements for gender studies and the social science or humanities general education requirement.
Field trips to Belize and the Sonoran Desert to study regional habitats have been featured in biology classes.
Enrollment is limited to four credits, and registration may be made at the Registrar's office through Jan. 6.
Classes are scheduled for morning or afternoon sessions, and tuition is charged at the same rate per credit as during the regular semester. Undergraduate fees for Wisconsin residents are $161 per credit and graduate fees are $546.59 for two credits for Wisconsin residents. Financial aid is not available for Winterim.

UWP's Winterim has grown steadily since its inception in January 2000. Beginning with five classes, it now offers more than 20. Winterim enrollment increased nearly 70 percent between 2000 and 2001 and increased more than 100 percent between 2001 and 2002.
