UWP Media Day praised in state publication
PLATTEVILLE - Every fall high school students in southwest Wisconsin can look forward to getting a jump start on journalism, photography and yearbook basics at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville Annual Media Day.
But it's not every day that UWP's Media Day gets noticed around the state. In a Nov. 2 Wisconsin Newspaper Association (WNA) Bulletin, a statewide publication for professional media, the event drew praise from former newspaper editor and publisher Bill Haupt.
Haupt, one of several media representatives sharing information at UWP Media Day, gave kudos to UWP Assistant Professor and Exponent Adviser Art Ranney, thanking him for "organizing this annual shindig. We're already looking forward to next year's event."
A veteran journalist and former publisher of the Lodi Enterprise, Haupt said he looks forward each year to the trek to Platteville.
"I really enjoy this educational outreach," said Haupt, who heads up the UW System, Wisconsin Technical College System and the Wisconsin Association of Independent Colleges and Universities Partners program.
"To engage college and high school students, who in turn enjoy being challenged is great. Their ability to think creatively and communicate effectively is always inspiring."
UWP's Media Day draws high school students from northwestern Illinois, northeastern Iowa and southwestern Wisconsin.
About 130 high school students from eight school districts attended the event last month.
