UWP hosts internship night for business students
PLATTEVILLE-Having an internship experience can mean the difference from obtaining that dream job after college or working at the local fast food restaurant, but knowing where to begin and what person to contact can be a challenge.
Taking some of the guesswork out of getting an internship, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville will host a business administration internship night from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, in the Touche Room of the Ullsvik Center. At around 4:45 p.m., participants will divide up to attend sessions in the M Rooms and Richland Room at the Ullsvik Center.
"Internship coordinators Steve Becker and Bernie Harris will give presentations on University and departmental internship procedures and requirements," said Margaret Karsten, chair of the UWP Department of Business and Accounting. "Following their comments, the group will divide into sessions dealing with internships in the areas of marketing, management/human resource management and finance. Students who have successfully completed internships in these areas will share their insights, and there will be plenty of time for participants to ask questions."
The internship night will be held in conjunction with a Business Advisory Board meeting to allow board members from organizations such as Brady Corporation, 3M, Barnstead Thermolyne, Merrill Lynch, TRICOR Insurance and the Wisconsin Department of Employment Relations to participate.
"These board members will share insights about qualifications and educational backgrounds they look for in student interns," Karsten said. "And Business Advisory Board members whose organizations have formal internship programs will be encouraged to explain the procedures involved to obtain an internship with their organization."
All UWP students in business administration are encouraged to attend. Refreshments will be served.
