UWP Homecoming Events for 2002
PLATTEVILLE-Lung and muscle power are called for as the University of Wisconsin-Platteville homecoming festivities, now in its second day, rev up.
Today (Tuesday, Oct. 1)
The annual tug-of-war is set for 3 p.m. on the driving range near the physical plant, with 22 teams participating. The weather forecast calls for rain, so it may be a muddy event. This probably won't deter these staunch competitors, who compete to see who can pull the other team into a muddy water hole.
Tonight at 7 p.m. a variety show with numerous student organizations and groups performing skits and music, along with impromptu feats of daring will be held in the Center for the Arts.
Today's dress-up scheme is "Oscar Day," in keeping with UWP's homecoming theme, "UWP Goes Hollywood." Students are invited to wear anything gold except jewelry.
Homecoming court voting continues from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. today in Glenview Commons and Wednesday 11 a,m. to 2 p.m. in the Pioneer Crossing in the new Pioneer Student Center.
Wednesday, Oct. 2
Wednesday's events include the gold bar relay - a 1.8-mile loop run by a four-person team - which will begin at 3 p.m. at the south entrance of Doudna Hall. All participants will receive t-shirts.
A challenge to lung power - the annual yell like hell contest is at 6:45 p.m. in the Williams Fieldhouse. Groups compete for cheering volume at the Pioneers' home volleyball game against Beloit College.
