UW-Platteville hosted Jennifer Thompson and Ronald Cotton as this year’s Distinguished Lecturers. The duo has written the best-selling book, “Picking Cotton,” which chronicles the duo’s journey of forgiveness. They spoke at the Williams Fieldhouse on April 2 to a crowd of approximately 1,200. In conjunction with UW-Platteville’s Wisconsin History Symposium 2014 – People and the Land, to be held April 3-5, the university will host an exhibition of artwork created by local, state and regional artists that reflects the history of Wisconsin’s people and the land. Exploring Contemporary Cultures Through Art – that’s what a group of University of Wisconsin-Platteville students did during their recent Winterim. Funded in part by the Pioneer Academic Center for Community Engagement, the short-term, faculty-led study abroad program partnered with the Istituto Pontificio Sant’Apollinare in Rome, Italy to give students an experience of a lifetime. The department of humanities will host “In Other Words…” student reading series followed by an open mic on Tuesday, April 1 in the upstairs of Gina’s Restaurant, 45 N. Logan Brecklin, a senior electrical engineering major, was recently selected for the John W. Estey Outstanding Power and Energy Society Scholarship Award. Brecklin is one of only seven students nationally to receive this scholarship. Read more...
