UW-Platteville announces spring of 2013 valedictorians
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. — Each of the three colleges at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville has announced its valedictorians. Each student will carry the plaque of his or her college during commencement on Saturday, May 11. The honored students have achieved the highest cumulative grade point average among the graduates of their respective colleges.
The College of Business, Industry, Life Science and Agriculture will be represented by Stacey Klemp from New London, Wis. Klemp will earn a bachelor’s in communication technology with an emphasis in public relations and a minor in spanish. Three internships and experiences provided outside of the classroom helped prepare Klemp for a career in communications. After graduating, Klemp and her husband will move to Green Bay, Wis.
Diedrik Hellenbrand from Wisconsin Dells, Wis. and Shanna Yoose from Richland Center, Wis., were chosen as the valedictorians and banner carriers for the College of Liberal Arts and Education.
Hellenbrand will earn a bachelor’s in criminal justice. While at UW-Platteville he has been a member of the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. Hellenbrand will pursue a career in law enforcement or corrections after graduating. Other future plans include traveling the world.
Yoose will be receiving a bachelor’s in psychology and a criminal justice minor with a substance abuse emphasis. She has been involved with the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society and Psi Chi International Honor Society in psychology. Following graduation, Yoose will continue an internship with Richland County Health and Human Services over the summer. She will then pursue other career and educational options.
The College of Engineering, Mathematics and Science has chosen Rebecca Hansen from Howards Grove, Wis., as its banner carrier and valedictorian. Hansen will earn a bachelor’s in chemistry with a criminalistics emphasis. Involvement on campus has included the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, American Chemical Society and Alchemist Club. In 2010, Hansen earned the honor of Analytical Chemistry Student of the Year from the UW-Platteville American Chemical Society.
The 190th commencement at UW-Platteville is scheduled for May 11. The day will include three commencement ceremonies. The first ceremony, which will feature students in the College of BILSA and the School of Graduate Studies, will begin at 9 a.m. The second ceremony, which will include students in the College of LAE will be held at 12:30 p.m. The College of EMS commencement ceremony will be held at 4:00 p.m. The three ceremonies will take place inside Williams Fieldhouse.
